ANIMAL WELFARE ALERTS

After months of work, our renovations have finally reached the "finishing touches" stage, with the major hurdles cleared! Thanks to the tireless efforts of a few wonderful volunteers and donors, we now have a purpose-designed space for the animals in our care! The space, which used to be a garage, no longer resembles its previous state whatsoever.

Renovations performed include:

-Painting walls, ceiling and baseboards.
-Cleaning, painting and sealing of cement floor.
-Construction of two rooms, a ferret room and a reptile room.
-Fixing insulation and drywall
-Installation of more electrical outlets, fluorescent lights, and heating ducts.
-Installation of a large stainless steel sink.
-Upgrade of furnace

The new space features:

-An epoxied cement floor, easy to clean and sanitize.
-2 walk in cat cages, suitable for four cats per cage.
-3 X large steel shelves, capable of holding the largest of enclosures.
-A completely ferret-proofed Ferret Room
-A Reptile Room, with extra heat and humidity provided.
-A large stainless steel sink, perfect for washing cages.
- A Vapor Dragon cleaning system, to make up for the lack of hot water!

There are only minor finishing touches to complete, such as the installation of a new door and counter-top; once finished, volunteers will be able to come over on a daily basis to socialize and care for the animals! If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please email us and we will send you an application.

A Special Thanks to Morgan Wong for giving up both time and money to help us achieve this goal, we wouldn't have been able to do it without you!

Our family has been rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing small domestic and exotic animals  such as reptiles, amphibians, rabbits, rodents, and birds for more than 10 years. Cats and dogs are taken in on a case to case basis; we depend on foster families to house many of them while in our care. The animals at 'The McDonald Family Animal Rescue' end up here after their prior owners, for whatever reason, can no longer care for them, while others are abandoned or rescued from neglect or abuse.

We are a smalll, family run organization that recently became a provincially registered charity (#322490). We are supported primarily by our own personal incomes, and the occasional donation from outside sources. We have received a few very generous donations of cash and supplies in the past, which we are extremely grateful for, and if it wasn't for the donations of cages and accessories, we wouldn't be able to operate as we do right now. We also have a few extremely loving, dedicated foster homes. Now that we have obtained our Charitable Status, we will be able to embark on larger fundraising campaigns,  and more easily access benefits from companies and corporations, government grants, etc.  The opportunities presented to us are many and 2009 is shaping up to be a very exciting and pivotol year in the development of 'The McDonald Family Animal Rescue Association'.

Our Goals:

  • To Rescue and Rehome animals that have been neglected, abused, abandoned or unwanted.
  • To provide loving care and veterinary treatment to any animals in need while in our care, never
  • To offer permanent sanctuary to those animals in our care that are unsuitable for rehoming due to issues with health, behaviour, etc.
  • To educate the public on animal welfare and husbandry by providing information and hands-on experiencto bee to schools, etc.
  • To develop a strong, efficient organization capable of expanding and providing our services at a larger capacity.

Due to the fact that we have limited funding and space, we have to turn away far too many animals, and it breaks our hearts. We hope to one day be able to accept more of these animals, who so desperately need us and to become an actual sanctuary.  Our long term goal is to expand our rescue to a large expanse of land so that we can rescue larger domestic and exotic animals, primarily farm animals and livestock that would otherwise just be sent to slaughter. We long to give animals like this the chance to live out thei rest of their lives in comfort, surrounded by those that love them.
